EXERCISES

Week 1

For the first week, we were introduced to a module called Art Direction. From my understanding, this class will teach us on how to, not only be an Art Director, but also a Project Manager.

Our first exercise for this class was to pair up with a partner and create a slide about what Art Direction is.

Week 2

Next up, we were require to research on the similarities of an Art Director in different creative fields. Again, we were told to pair up with a partner; and I paired up with the same partner as Week 1, Ng Jia Jin.

Week 3

In week 3, we were to form a group consisting of 4 members. I group up with Ng Jia Jin, Brian Chiam, and Adele Loo.

Our task for this week was to research on how to become a leader in group management.

Week 4

On the 4th week, our lecturer, Mr Kannan, thought us about a few systems in project management: Agile System and Waterfall System.

The Waterfall System is hierarchy dependent, and that a task is only completed when the stakeholder says so.

In an Agile System, the perks of it is that it is able to identify certain risks. What the system does is that the members will have a meeting and plan their tasks. And, the tasks will be agreed based on their skills and it also allows them to obtain ownership of the work.

ASSIGNMENT

Our assignment was given to us during the 3rd week of Art Direction. We were to come up with our own project that we want to pitch. A group of 4 members were formed, my group members were Ng Jia Jin, Brian Chiam, and Adele Loo.

Task 1

Our first task was to come up with ideas for our project pitching. We had 2 different ideas for the project, our first concept was to create an Augmented Pop-up Storybook. And the story will be based off Hansel and Gretel. The second concept was to create some sort of DIY All-In-One Shoe, to put it in words, if IKEA were to produce shoes.

Task 2

The project that we chose to work on was the All-In-One shoe. After finally settling down on the project, we then split our tasks among the members.

My task was to come up with some sketches for sneaker designs.

Task 3

The next task was to deconstruct the shoe, or at least figure out how to.

I have designed three different types of shoes suitable for the trend we have nowadays.

Task 4

The fourth task was more or less the same, just designing more shoes and dismantling them.

Below here is an idea on how the shoe will be assembled.

Task 5

The task for this was to come up with how the shoe will be assembled (again).

Task 6, 7, and 8

Task 6 to 8 was mostly about enhancing the overall look of the shoe, along with its orthographic and blueprint.

Below here are the blueprint and orthographic for the shoes with different colors.

Below here is the final detail and chosen design for the sneakers.

Task 9

This task was more about doing the slides an finalizing them to show our lecturer our progress from the firs week of the project up to the final consultation week.

There were also some changes to be made with my sneakers. Such as the attachment plans. Instead of using clips and Velcro, snap buttons were used instead.

Below here is the blueprint for the finalized sneakers.

During this time, I also try to make the shoe look realistic as possible by adding some textures to it: Leather and suede leather.

Task 10

The last and final task is to improve on the slides for our pitch deck, mostly reworking on the infographics with some added data collection. We used Canva for this.

As for the poster design, I am in charge of it.

Below here were the initial mock ups for the poster design as I didn't have any inspiration to  create the poster.

At first, the group members decided that it's best the divide the shoes in 1/3. Like the example below here.

But dividing the shoes into 3 individual parts didn't turn out too well. If it were all sneakers, it'd be fine.

So, above here is the final poster design for our project. For the background, I used 2 different textures: leather and suede, because these two are the main materials used for our product.

Then lastly, below here is our final pitch deck slide.

Below here is the Gantt chart throughout the whole project.

REFLECTION

Problem encountered during this module?

The only problem that was encountered during this whole module was that we don't know what to do. As like some of us would say it, we have no direction in this class (as a joke of course). Other than that, it was more towards the whole planning and what to do next.

What was the solution?

Our solution was to constantly message the group since we didn't really have the chance to conduct meetings whatsoever. Majority of our communication was done through WhatsApp.

What were the challenges faced?

It was hard trying to complete the tasks given because there were other assignments that needed to be completed aside from this module.

Where would you incorporate this module?

In the beginning, I wasn't really clear about what this module was about. But throughout the whole semester, I was starting to see the importance of this module. This class has taught how to not only be an Art Director but also a good team and project manager. I would incorporate this module in my career when it comes to management of tasks.

Any feedbacks?

Be really confident when you are going to pitch your project. Don't take criticism to heart, and especially don't allow your emotions to cloud your judgment.
