EXERCISE
Exercise 1
Our first exercise for this class just sketches and block outs. Basically, learning and understanding the functions of the skeletal structure of the human.
We started off with using a wooden mannequin.
After that, we sketch out a human skeleton.
Exercise 2
For this exercise, we did the same thing again which was block outs, but with objects instead.
Shortly after block out exercise, we then had a chance to play around with ZBrush.
Exercise 3
For the next exercise, we aren't sketching on papers anymore. From now on, it's just mostly dealing with ZBrush.
We learned how to use ZSphere in ZBrush. ZSpheres are basically bones that gives 3D models to move around with.
Plus, we also learned some additional shortcut keys to use in ZBrush.
Exercise 4
For this final exercise, we were tasked to sculpt a full body of a human.
I started off with aligning 8 spheres on top of each other to form a measurement, because the height of a person is roughly 8 heads.
After I'm done using the 8 heads as measurement, I straight away sculpt the torso and the legs first.
Then, I moved on to refining and smoothing the body, and added some arms as well.
After that, I added the head and sculpt it, and I also sculpt out the feet.
After receiving some feedback, I fixed the head a bit.
Lastly, I gave this sculpture some hands, but I'm really bad at it (If I can't draw hands, then I suck at sculpting it).
ASSIGNMENT
For our assignment, we are to create a 3D model of any character from our Character Design class. For this, I have chosen my character design Ragebound to make my 3D model.
I started out with some block outs at first, just a quick one. Gave him some blocky hands and feet just to use them as a reference. Didn't really bother much about his face just yet.
After I have settled with the block outs, I then move on to sculpting the whole thing. I sculpted the whole body first before inserting its tail and adding some extra stuff like fingers and horns.
When I have completed the sculpting process for my model, I added the other bother parts that were missing before.
I also added some teeth for my model.
After I am confident with my sculpture, I then rig it to add some bones so that I can pose it. This process only happened because I did not initially use ZSphere to create him.
Below here are the results after posing the model.
After I was done posing the model, I went on to add some texture to its surface using NanoMesh. But doing so will only make my model thicker, so I did not proceed with it.
Below here is the model after adding some color using a tool call PolyPaint.
A three-quarter view of the model with it's weapon.
Lastly, the thumbnail for the 3D model.
REFLECTION
Problems encountered?
Well, the only problem I ever encounter throughout this module is just 3D modelling. It's not hard, but it does take some time to learn and get used to it because we've never had any 3D exercise prior to this semester. And because of that, we took quite a long time for most of our work.
Future solution?
The only future solution that I have in mind, which is not for me, is that the school should provide some basic teachings about 3D modelling before we get into our Specialization. Because learning everything from scratch during this part of the semester consumes too much time.
Challenges faced?
At first, I was really reluctant about 3D design because it looked tough. But after playing around with it, it became enjoyable and I actually had fun using it, especially ZBrush.
Where will you incorporate this?
This module will help me in the long run, especially for the career that I am pursuing.
